As I plan a family vacation to New Mexico this week, I am thinking to myself, when I get back in a week the rivers will have receded and back to normal. The trout will be back in the big pools, but those holes might have change a little with all the spring flooding. Hemingway coined the phrase “write what you know” and it rings true for me. Although I could never compare what I do to Hemingway his persona is with me when I go fishing and later when I think about what to write about.

Fishing is a generational activity that has been going on since the beginning of time. I could always start a conversation with my Dad about fishing, especially in those awkward high school years. Now with my kids I see the same thing, if there is nothing to talk about usually someone will bring up fishing.

We are fortunate to live so close to diverse fishing opportunities, we have multiple lakes, beaver ponds, streams, and rivers. We have reservoirs that support World Class Blue Ribbon Trout Streams like Miracle Mile, Gray’s Reef and areas of the North Platte. There is always someplace that the fishing is good and you can plan a trip, take off work to go fish. It gets harder to plan and actually go on these fishing trips when you have young children, a career and grass to cut. But we need to have vacations and breaks to relax from the stress of the day-to-day. Go Fish!

Sarcasm of the Day: “A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work” Uh, I'll call B.S. I've watched the deadliest catch on Discovery. I've never once been at work, capsized in 40 degree water, watched all my co-workers die, and be like, "Hey, at least we're freaking fishing!" - Daniel Tosh

Laramie Area Fishing Report:

1. Lake Hattie:  fishing fair and is now full.  The Game and Fish just recently stocked Lake Hattie.

2. Twin Buttes is fishing fair.  The Wyoming Game and Fish just recently stocked Twin Buttes.  The fishing should steadily get better throughout the summer.

3. Galett is still fishing well.  The Laramie Plains lakes are a great alternative to blownout rivers.

4. Meeboer: It's official.  We had 100% winter kill at Meeboer.  The Wyoming Game and Fish restocked Meeboer over a month ago with sub-catchables.

5. Owen and Rob Roy: It may be mid July before we can get to Lake Owen.  The Range is at 172% snowpack.  Any one have a snowmachine?

6.  The North Platte seems to have peaked and is slowly coming down.  The flows are still quite high, making a few bridges unpassable.

7. Gray's Reef  is running clear from the dam to Casper.  The fishing has been great with the usual cast of characters, worms, scuds, leeches, and egg patterns. PMD nymphs are also producing a fair number of fish.
8.  The Miracle Mile is fishing well.  Fish any slow water you can find.
