Last year the University of Wyoming experienced a rise in forcible sex crimes as well as burglaries. The University of Wyoming reported there were nine forcible sex offenses and 51 burglaries in 2010.

In 2009, there was one forcible sex offense reported. That number jumped to nine in 2010. According to UW Police Chief Troy Lane, sex offenses are an under-reported crime. The UWPD has been working with local organizations and victims to improve safety and support. They hope victims of forcible sexual crimes continue to report such offenses.

Last year 51 burglaries were reported, compared to 26 in 2009. Lane said burglaries on campus can fluctuate greatly from year to year. Although forcible sex crime rates and burglaries have increased UWPD Police Chief Troy Lane states that the Laramie campus remains among the safest in the region.

It was also reported that alcohol related arrests fell to 206 in 2010. In 2009, 265 alcohol related arrests were reported. Drug arrests however increased  from 32 in 2009 to 48 last year.
