The University of Wyoming’s Division of Auxiliary Services has announced that their Transit and Parking Services transit system will now be named “Roundup!” The name fits nicely for the cowboy state’s only four year University which oddly enough tends to round up thousands of cowboys and cowgirls from across the state.

The new name is a re-branding initiative that comes as the university has purchased six new buses. The new buses come at a time of record breaking student enrollment. The city of Laramie has also boosted the efficiency and quality of it’s transportation with the creation of a citywide bus system called “The Gem City Grand.”

The six new university owned buses were purchased through a Federal Transit Administration stimulus grant of $1.55 million that was distributed among the Wyoming Department of Transportation. The new buses feature a low floor design improving loading times and entry aid. The buses are also equipped with a “clean diesel” design that eliminates most nitrogen oxide emissions. The new buses also include custom brown and gold graphics.  They will be replacing older buses that UW previously rented. “Roundup” bus shelters will also get new vinyl graphics.

An unveiling of the new buses will take place during a formal ceremony next month.Operating since 2002, the UW transit system has a fleet of 19 buses and annually transports approximately 620,000 riders.
