Laramie Lions Club Kicks Off 2012 with Ice Fishing Derby
A little while back, we mentioned that Saratoga was going to be having a big ice fishing derby soon, but there is actually one this weekend for the Laramie Lions Club. The 2012 event marks the 20th anniversary for the annual event held at Lake Hattie, which is located Located approximately 20 miles west of Laramie at the base of the Snowy Range Mountains.
The derby is a two day event running from 8AM to 4PM on Saturday, January 7th, and from 8AM to 3PM on Sunday the 8th. Registration for the event runs through 10AM on the morning of the 7th at the West Laramie Fly Store; Adult registration is $30 and kids under the age of 14 are free. In the past this local fundraiser by the Laramie Plains Lions Club has drawn quite the crowd, people numbering in the hundreds come out to participate. There is good reason to do so, because there are some great prizes on the line; we have the full list of prizes below our story.
The weather forecast for the weekend is looking very favorable for this event so far with temperatures in the mid 30's so grab a friend or your kids and head out to lake Hatti. You still might want to bundle up despite the forecast. In previous years, the Boomerang has quoted participants as saying that the wind has been so strong that huts on the lake can barely stand up. In any case it should be a fun time for all to go out and enjoy our wonderful outdoors! For more pictures and information on this event please visit the Laramie Plains Lions Club's Website
