Question: It has recently been brought to my attention that hammock and/or slacklines are no longer allowed at Washington Park.

Answer: The use of hammocks and slacklines in the city parks is prohibited.

City Ordinance 12.52.010 - Damaging vegetation: No person (other than authorized city employees) shall damage, cut, carve, transplant or remove any tree or plant or injure the bark, or pick the flower or seeds of any tree or plant. Nor shall any such person attach any rope, wire or other contrivance to any tree or plant, dig in or otherwise disturb grass areas, or in any other way injure or impair the natural beauty or usefulness of any area in the park.

Question: Are residents allowed to install eco-friendly artificial turf in their yards?

Answer. Residents may be allowed to install artificial turf on existing properties per the requirements of LMC 15.14.050.E – Residential Front Yard Landscaping. There are requirements for minimum living material and trees, for each residential property, thus a property with only artificial turf would not be permitted. Any resident can set up a meeting with a Planning Staff member to discuss residential landscaping requirements by calling 721-5207.
