I am a transplanted Wyomingite. I moved here 32 years ago! We moved around a lot since my Dad was getting his degrees from different universities: University of Arizona, University of Washington, Auburn Alabama, and then to Wyoming. I lived in Nebraska for a year, but that doesn't count! Living in all of those college towns you learn about college pride and what football means in different states. It’s the same game; you have the same size field, and the goal posts are in the same place; but in the south it’s more of a religion and you dress up and you live and die each week with your team; in Wyoming you wear jeans, and if the Cowboys loose you say there is always next season.

In Wyoming we only have one division 1 team, the Wyoming Cowboys. The logo of steamboat is on our license plates, our helmets,  our flags, and now even on our trash cans. We identify with the cowboy image even though most of us have never roped a cow or owned chaps. The imagery of the Wyoming Cowboy for me is a soft spoken, hard working person that respects the land he works,  but will do whatever it takes to prevent his values and that what he holds true.  Basically a John Wayne or Jimmy Stewart type; trustworthy and full of character and spirit.

Back to football: this is why we in Wyoming can really get behind our football team. We might not win every fight but we get back on the horse, kick the dust off, and learn from our mistakes and our successes.

Nothing feels as good as the canon firing after a Wyoming touchdown! But it will feel even better after we score against the Nebraska Cornhuskers!

I might not be born and raised in Wyoming, but I'm a Wyoming Cowboy and Cowgirl fan for life! I know every Wyoming fan feels the same way.

GO COWBOYS!
