This weekend the University of Wyoming Outdoor Program is hosting its much awaited outdoor gear swap. The event begins at 11am on Saturday in the UW Union. However, be sure to arrive early, as the crowds begin to build long before the doors are opened. This event generally brings together a few hundred buyers and sellers to exchange outdoor gear. Buying outdoor gear can be expensive, and while online sellers provide outdoor gear at a more affordable rate, some gear—like climbing shoes—are best tried on before purchase.

Looking to get some new gear? The Gear Swap provides a great opportunity. Sellable gear generally includes gear for a range of activities such as kayaking, climbing, backpacking, camping, and clothing. The gear swap provides a great way for you to affordably get into new outdoor activities by selling gear at reasonable prices. Make sure that you bring cash or checks, as they are the only accepted form of payment. Checks will be made out to the gear seller.

Looking to sell some of your old gear? Stop by the Union Friday, March 23rd between 6-8pm or Saturday March 24th between 8am and 10am to drop off your gear. As a seller, you will be able to set your own price on gear. However, the Outdoor Program will take a percentage of the sale, which is no different than if you sold the gear at Gear Trader or eBay. Prices are also competitive at the swap, so don’t set your price close to the resale value (unless of course it is nearly new). If you gear does not sell, be prepared to pick it up between 1pm-3pm that Saturday afternoon.
