‘One Warm Coat,’ Brings Warmth to Laramie

Of all the things Laramie is known for, weather might top the list.

We can all relate to the bitter cold that happens upon us in winter.  Unfortunately though, the cold is a little more bitter for some of us than for others.

That's where One Warm Coat comes in.  One Warm Coat is a local program that accepts and redistributes gently used coats through the partnership of many local organizations in Laramie.

The process is simple: there are drop-off points throughout Laramie where anyone can donate their fair to good condition used coat; the donated coats are cleaned (if possible) at Down To Earth Dry Cleaners; Interfaith-Good Samaritan takes the cleaned coats and distributes them to areas of need throughout the community.

Though this is only the second year of the program, more than 500 coats were donated last winter and more are anticipated to be donated this year.

Some of the donated coats last winter were not in wearable condition and had to be discarded by the staff at Down to Earth Dry Cleaners.  Though they hope for the same number of donated coats, in the second year of the program, they are hoping that there will be fewer unwearable coats.

Speaking on behalf of Down to Earth, Jo Jones commented that "...it's an opportunity to provide a coat for someone in need, not an opportunity to get rid of an old coat."

Quality Inn of Laramie is another local business participating with One Warm Coat.  They are not collecting coats but they will be assisting with storing coats before they are distributed by Interfaith-Good Samaritan.
