It’s official, The Laramie Police Department will be hiring two more officers.  The hiring of two officers was voted on by the Laramie City Council. According to Laramie Police Chief Dale Stalder the department currently has 49 officers. Adding two more will put Laramie at the FBI’s mountain states recommended staffing level.

The Laramie City council approved a grant through the Department of Justice Community Oriented Police Services program which will enable the hiring of two more officers. The federal grant offers $386,000 to help pay for two officers salaries for three years and requires the city of Laramie to pay for a fourth year.

The LPD is a full service police department serving the City of Laramie. Located in southeastern Wyoming and home to the University of Wyoming, they have 80 employees working in various capacities.  Forty-nine sworn officers function in varied roles including Patrol, Investigations, School Resource Officers, DARE, Crime Prevention, Training and Education, and Command.
