Beck Denies Pointing Loaded Gun at Police
A Laramie man accused of pointing a loaded gun at police officers pleaded not guilty Thursday in Albany County District Court.
Jason Martin Beck, 42, is charged with one felony count of aggravated assault for allegedly making threats with a deadly weapon. If convicted, he could face a sentence of up to 10 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Beck’s trial is scheduled for July 7-8.
Court documents say two Laramie police officers responded to Beck’s residence in Laramie Jan. 23 to address a snow removal complaint.
According to the affidavit, dispatch told the responding officers that Beck was intoxicated, angry and holding a pistol. Beck allegedly stood on the front porch and pointed the pistol at officers, telling them to stop as they approached the residence.
Court documents say an officer gave Beck verbal commands and Beck eventually put the gun down on the porch rail before officers secured the pistol and took Beck into custody.
The affidavit says one of the officers examined the pistol and found a round in the chamber.
