A popular scenic highway in southeast Wyoming has reopened in time for Memorial Day weekend.

Wyoming Highway 130 over the Snowy Range between Laramie and Saratoga is open for the season.

Drivers often use this part of the highway because it lowers travel time to towns like Saratoga, Baggs and Encampment when coming from Laramie, Cheyenne or parts of Colorado. The highway is also regularly traveled for the scenic drive, as it can have walls of snow over 10-feet high in the beginning of the summer season.

Current high country conditions are wet with cold nights. Motorcyclists and bikers should watch for patches of frozen run-off before the morning sun dries the road surface. All travelers and hikers should be prepared for possible closures due to winter-like weather.

All focus for WYDOT crews now moves west to Wyoming Highway 70, also called Battle Pass, which remains impassable. There is no set opening date for WYO 70 at this time.

Both WYO 130 over the range and WYO 70 over Battle Pass close annually in late autumn when relatively low traffic and deep snow accumulations render plowing operations impractical.
