Fire Smoke Near Laramie: Where’s It From?
If you see smoke on the horizon near Laramie and Centennial, Wyoming, there's no need to panic. The smoke and ash are part of a controlled burn.
The fire at Happy Jack is a prescribed burn by the Medicine Bow-Route National Forest, to burn timber litter and slash.
A total of 1,200 acres is being targeted in the Pole Mountain area, according to Georgia Martin at the Laramie Forest Service office. Yesterday, 200 acres were cleared. The goal todsy is 550, weather and wind permitting, leaving 450 acres left.
Targeted, controlled burns help reduce forest fires by clearing dead, dry flammable forest fuel.
