UNIVERSITY OF WYOMING PRESS RELEASE:

Mezzo-soprano Katrina Zook will perform Sunday, March 30, at 3 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Admission is free and open to the public.

The program, part of the UW  Department of Music’s  Faculty Recital Series, will showcase Zook's classical training at the world-renowned Eastman Conservatory of Music and her great talent in American popular music.

The classical side of this concert will feature Zook collaborating with pianist Chi-Chen Wu on several pieces spanning hundreds of years in the vocal repertoire. The duo will begin with an extended concert aria by Mozart and will perform four German art songs by Robert Schumann. The first three songs are from the perspective of a military bride.

"My husband is a retired Army officer and served in Afghanistan for a year,” says Zook, “so these songs are very near and dear to my heart." They also will perform a song cycle by Debussy, one of Zook's favorite works.

The concert’s fourth song set will include four songs from a larger song cycle by American composer Irving Fine.  Zook will be joined by faculty jazz pianist Ben Markley for the final set of songs, titled “Memorable and Magical Places.”
