USA Swim Club Wyoming State Championships
Laramie High School hosted the Winter State Championship for USA Swim club during the weekend of March 3-5, 2017.
Founded in 1969, the USA Swim Club welcomes children ages 6-18 to learn how to swim for leisure or for competitive purposes. Members of the club are also taught about good sportsmanship and team spirit.
Six members of Laramie's Swim Club placed at the Winter State Championship last weekend, and one member set two state records.
Max DeYoung, who competed in the 13-14 age group, set the state record for the 50 yard freestyle, clocking in at 22.04 seconds. DeYoung also set a new record for the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:01.97 minutes.
In addition to setting records, DeYoung also received first place in six events, and second place in the 100 and 200 yard freestyles.
Other members of the team include Anna Roesler, who competed in the 11-12 age group and received second place in the 50 yard freestyle and third place in the 200 yard freestyle. Collin Fontana competed in the 13-14 age group and swam away with third place for the 1650 yard freestyle.
The Laramie Swim Club also had three members participating in the 15-16 age group. Olivia McPherson earned second place in the 50 yard freestyle, Noah Richardson took third place in the 100 yard backstroke and 200 yard fly, and Maggie Clerkin won second place in the 200 yard freestyle.
