For the 16th year, the American Cancer Society will be raising money in Laramie through Relay for Life. The 2012 event has been set for June 22nd and 23rd at Deti Stadium. Teams are forming now and it's never too early to get involved!

The Relay is an overnight event in which teams of people take turns walking around the track. Relayers do not have to walk all night, but teams are asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. In 2011, the Albany County Relay for Life had 220 participants and raised over $70,000, and they are hoping to raise even more money this year.

To form a team, a team captain simply needs to register them at albanyrelay.org with 8-15 team members. Each team sets their own fundraising goal, but every participant is expected to raise a minimum of $100. From there the fundraising can begin.

Team captain meetings from March thru June will pass on tricks and tips for fundraising. Some of the ideas include "the purple toilet" in which people can donate $25 and have a purple toilet placed on the yard of their choosing for two days, "restaurant night" has a local restaurant dedicate one night where they donate a percentage of their sales, and "casual  Monday" is a great idea for the workplace where employees donate for the privilege to wear jeans to work.

Any people interested in becoming a team captain or businesses that want to sponsor the event can contact Jeremie Crum at jcrum@warrenfcu.com or Sam Curr at scurr@warrenfcu.com.
