For many, the Fourth of July is a nice day off work and a time to celebrate. The Laramie Police Department, though, won’t be taking any time off for the holiday.

The Fourth of July marks the beginning of Laramie Jubilee Days in 2015, and a recent study from BACtrack points to Independence Day as the heaviest drinking day of the year across the country. That same study says that more Wyomingites will get drunk this summer than in any other state in the mountain west region.

It’s no wonder why the Laramie Police Department is putting more men on the streets, focusing on cracking down on drunk drivers. Extra officers will be on shift for the Fourth of July weekend and continuing throughout Laramie Jubilee Days, which runs until July 12.

Crime Prevention Officer Kyle Groose with the Laramie Police Department says each night will have at least one extra officer on duty, and some nights will have even more.

Groose says people who are planning on drinking should always have a plan to get home that does not involve getting behind the wheel after having too much to drink. He advises people to ride with friends, call cabs, or to walk home if possible in order to keep themselves and others safe.

In addition, Laramie’s SafeRide will operate during its normal summer business hours throughout the holiday. SafeRide will run Friday, July 3rd and on Saturday, July 4th from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. The phone number for SafeRide is 307-766-7422.
