Laramie Group Seeks to Purchase Trackstanders for Disabled Veterans [VIDEO]
A Laramie-based community foundation is raising money to help disabled veterans get back into the outdoors.
WYO-VETS-ON-THE-MOVE is a (501)(c)(4) organization raising money to provide Action Trackchairs to Wyoming veterans with mobility limitations resulting from their military service.
Frank Cylvick, the group’s leader, says the Trackstander model is not a wheelchair – it is an all-terrain vehicle meant specifically for outdoor use.
“So you can raise the individual up in the standing position,” Cylvick says, “which now really helps them – they can be standing right next to you and talking to you eyeball to eyeball and not looking up at you all the time.”
Cylvick says the Trackstander can be adapted for fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities.
The group has raised enough money for the first Trackstander -- which is currently on display at First Interstate Bank in downtown Laramie -- and is well on the way to purchasing a second one.
Cylvick says any veteran wounded during their service who was honorably discharged and is in need of a Trackstander, or anyone who would like to donate to the initiative, can get in touch with WYO-VETS-ON-THE-MOVE at 742-5200.
