Wyoming Wants Input on Outdoor Fun
If you enjoy Wyoming’s outdoors, tell the Wyoming Outdoor Recreation Office and potentially win a free YETI Roadie cooler for sharing your thoughts. Complete the 15-20 minute 2023 Outdoor Recreation User Survey by Oct. 1 to be entered into the YETI raffle.
The survey is open to every kind of recreationist. Bike riders, hikers, dog walkers, skiers, softball players, hunters, travelers; anyone who’s set foot outside in Wyoming. The goal is to gather as much input as possible to help make the Wyoming Outdoor experience better. Even if you don’t enjoy Wyoming outdoors, take the survey. Perhaps improvements will motivate you to brave the -20 temperatures.
The survey is to inform the Wyoming State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) of people’s wants, needs, and priorities regarding outdoor recreation in our state. Once identified, it will help SCORP address these needs, design local projects to improve outdoor Wyoming fun, and secure funding for upgrades.
The press release stated that the State of Wyoming receives approximately $2.3 million annually in Land and Water Conservation Funds for outdoor recreation opportunities.
The last Wyoming SCORP was completed in 2019. Since that survey, recreation activity has grown across the state. Wyoming National Parks saw 8.7 million visitors in 2021 and visitation to state parks and historic sites saw 5.7 million visits in 2021, a 25% increase over the five-year average.
Most states around the country participate in a State Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, which is updated every five years. This year, the State of Wyoming has hired a team of consultants from SE Group to support the 2023 Wyoming SCORP update process.
