Federal Fugitive Arrested in Laramie
A federal fugitive, wanted for interstate flight to avoid prosecution, was arrested Wednesday afternoon in Laramie.
According to an official release from the Laramie Police Department, John C. Buckley IV was arrested after initially fleeing from officers, on the 1100 block of south 3rd Street. The release goes on to say that Buckley ran from officers across the railroad tracks into a green belt area south of Garfield street. It was there that law enforcement set up a perimeter and later spotted Buckley hiding behind underbrush and a dirt berm. Although he attempted to run again, officers were able to subdue him at that time and take him into custody.
According to a Kentucky news website, officials began the search for Buckley nearly six months ago, after he fled a Kentucky court where he was being tried for rape and sodomy. Buckley was out on bond at the time of his flight.
The Laramie P.D. says that Buckley has an "extensive violent arrest history and was considered possibly armed." He is said to have been in the Laramie area for less than a week.
The arrest was a joint operation of the Laramie Police Department, the Albany County Sheriff's Office and the United States Marshall's Service. Following his arrest, Buckley was released to the U.S. Marshall's service for transport to Kentucky for the original charges resulting in the federal charge.
Laramie Police say that the investigation is ongoing.
