Mirror Lake Day Use Area Closed Due to Active Investigation

Due to an active investigation, the Albany County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to avoid the Mirror Lake Day Use Area.

According to an agency Facebook post, the area, which is a popular picnic and fishing stop on Snowy Range Road, has been temporarily closed to allow deputies and partner agencies to investigate the matter.

"There is no reason to believe there is an active threat to the public's safety," the post reads.

The Sheriff's Office says its Facebook page will serve as the primary source of the most current and accurate information, and updates will be provided as more details become available.

"Please be patient with our office as investigations do take time to process thoroughly," the post reads.

Body Found Near Mirror Lake in Albany County

The Albany County Sheriff's Office is asking the public to continue avoiding the Mirror Lake Day Use Area after a body was found in the area.

According to an agency Facebook post, the Sheriff's Office was notified about the deceased individual around 8 p.m. on July 4, 2024.

The Mirror Lake Day Use Area and portions of Snowy Range Road (Wyoming 130) have been closed to the public to allow investigators to do their work.

"There is no confirmed information about the deceased, and they remain unidentified currently," the post reads. "Cause and manner of death is currently being investigated."

The Sheriff's Office says there's no immediate threat to the public.

The investigation is being conducted by the Sheriff’s Office with help from the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation Crime Scene Unit.

"More information will be released from the Albany County Sheriff’s Office at a later date once received," the post reads. "We are saddened by this unfortunate discovery, but we remain committed to finding a resolution and bringing closure to the affected family."

Mirror Lake has reopened after a body was found near the Day Use Area, the Albany County Sheriff's Office in a Saturday morning Facebook post said.

"The deceased person found at Mirror Lake remains unidentified at this time," the post reads. "The investigation into the death of the deceased is ongoing and more information will be released next week."
