UPDATE: As of approximately 2:30 Friday afternoon, I-80 is listed as being "open" in both directions.  As always, be sure to check conditions before traveling.  You can do so at www.wyoroad.info or by calling 511 from any phone within the state.

According to posts made on the official Wyoming Department of Transportation facebook page, a "vehicle tangle" west of Laramie had caused a traffic back-up on I-80 stretching for miles.  As of 1:30 Friday afternoon, the WYDOT Wyo-road-info website still listed eastbound I-80 as being closed.  Other parts of I-80 had reduced speed limits as low as 45 miles per hour.

"WYDOT maintenance personnel and Highway Patrol this morning responded to a multiple vehicle tangle that closed I-80 eastbound for several hours. Preliminary reports indicate that a tractor trailer rig either spun out or voluntarily stopped in the driver's side lane near milepost 305 west of Laramie. The roadway was slick and fog had settled in at that point. After the initial truck stopped the vehicles began piling into each other.

As of 11 am, the line of vehicles waiting for the wrecks to clear was estimated at four miles long. The eastbound lane was closed at Sinclair."
