The Gryphon Theatre, along with News from Nowhere, is hosting its 5th annual Art and Music Thing on January 16. The event will take place from 12 p.m. to Midnight at the Gryphon Theatre.

The Art and Music Thing started as a launch party for News from Nowhere, an arts and events publication for the Laramie area, in 2012 at the home of News from Nowhere's publisher, Wiley Combs.

Of the first event, Combs says, "We had roughly 200 people crammed into my house...There were half a dozen bands playing in the basement, and art show upstairs and down, a full bar, a keg, and a formal dress code."

As for the new location, Combs said, "Luckily, we found a more reasonable location to host the event this year...The Gryphon is the perfect location, since it offers multiple locations for us to showcase local musicians and artists.

The event will have more than 30 local bands performing throughout the day, and will also feature live attractions such as a burlesque troupe, dueling pianos, bellydancing, and live portrait painting.

Tickets for the event are $5 in advance and $8 at the door. Proceed will benefit the SAFE Project as well as other art events hosted through the Laramie Plains Civic Center. Tickets can be bought at www.gryphontheatre.org.
