It’s Official: ‘Arrested Development’ Season 5 Coming in 2018
Jason Bateman, it seems, found that money in the banana stand. Where previously Arrested Development Season 5 could only confirm Michael Bluth’s involvement, Netflix has stepped in to make the new season official for 2018.
The streaming service confirmed as much Wednesday, adding that the 2018 revival would feature its entire cast of Bateman, Michael Cera, Jeffrey Tambor, Jessica Walter, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, Portia de Rossi, David Cross and Alia Shawkat. Says creator Mitch Hurwitz, poking fun at familiar figures in the news:
In talks with Netflix we all felt that that stories about a narcissistic, erratically behaving family in the building business — and their desperate abuses of power — are really underrepresented on TV these days. I am so grateful to them and to 20th TV for making this dream of mine come true in bringing the Bluths, George Sr., Lucille and the kids; Michael, Ivanka, Don Jr., Eric, George-Michael, and who am I forgetting, oh Tiffany. Did I say Tiffany? — back to the glorious stream of life.
The show’s Twitter account also seemed to imply that the split-cast filming of Season 4 wouldn’t be the case anymore:
Hurwitz had previously projected an early 2017 start to production, though reports of a prequel format (to minimize cast commitment) suggested a possible June shoot date. Elsewhere, Arnett previously claimed that Netflix bosses “need to get their s— together,” while Hurwitz has also mapped out a large portion of Season 5, hoping to capitalize on eerie similarities to the 2016 elections.
We should learn more in the next few weeks, but will Arrested Development seem any less relevant in the four years since Season 4?
