ALS Seminar Series Organized In Response To Popularity Of Ice Bucket Challenge
A Laramie psychologist will speak in a seminar series focusing on ALS on Thursday, November 13. The series takes place at 4 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Berry Center Auditorium.
Martha Schilling will discuss behavioral health aspects of degenerative diseases with symptoms that are similar to ALS, or Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. She will also discuss how the disease effects the patient and those close to them. Also speaking at Thursday’s seminar is Peter H. Hegg, a member of the board of directors of the Rocky Mountain Chapter of the ALS Association.
The seminar series was organized by UW’s Community Health Advancement Program, or CHAP, in response to the popularity of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. The goal is to help those interested in the topic to gain an understanding about the disease.
The series concludes on Wednesday, November 19. Those speaking on November 19 include Suzanne Schrag from the Rocky Mountain ALS Association and UW’s Collette Kuhfus, a family member of an ALS patient.
