CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) — The chief executive of a wind turbine manufacturer says the company plans to train Wyoming workers as wind energy technicians.

Goldwind Americas CEO David Halligan says they could include workers laid off as a result of the recent downturn in the coal, oil and natural gas industries.

Halligan on Thursday announced Goldwind Works, a company-sponsored training program. The company will hold informational meetings in June, followed by wind farm tours for those interested in working in wind energy.

Halligan said at an energy industry conference in Cheyenne he needs workers experienced in construction, ironworks and steelworks.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts wind turbine technician jobs will more than double in the U.S. by 2024.
