If you live in West Laramie it is hard to miss the new gas station being built at the intersection of highways 130 and 230. Construction on what will be called the "Gateway Complex" began back in July of 2011. The name is intended to reflect the location's gateway to the mountains. The new complex will consist of not only a 4,000 square foot convenience store, but also a 2,000 square foot liquor store. Many West Laramie citizens will be happy to hear that the convenience store will be larger than most. While it is obviously not a grocery store, something that West Laramie continues to lack, it will provide a nearby location to quickly grab essential food items.

The one big thing the new Gateway Complex will provide that is sure to make many Laramie citizens fans of the new business is gas prices that are aligned with those of other stations in town. I for one will appreciate that! The gas station will be branded as a Shell; owners told us that the brand was picked because of their strong reputation for consistently delivering excellent quality gasoline among a host of other reasons. This should be a big plus for those filling up snowmobiles that are looking for a high quality gasoline. The station was actually designed with larger trucks and trailers in mind as the gas pumps will be spaced further apart than normal, making it easier to navigate. Extensive work with WYDOT also took place to ensure that entrances and exits to the complex will make traffic flow in and out of the gas station onto each highway easy.

In talking with one of the partners invested in the new complex, I was very pleased to see that they really took the time to think through what they were doing and try to be as considerate as possible to their neighbors. Since the new gas station is in a residential area, it will open at 6AM and close around 10PM. The Liquor store will stay open later on Friday and Saturday evenings until midnight, but no later. Speaking of the liquor store, it will carry a wide variety of liquors including wine. It was mentioned to us that if the store doesn't carry something you would like, you can request to have them carry a new item. One other goal of the new gas station is to help provide a very attractive entrance to the City of Laramie from highways 130 and 230. The owners have plans for extensive landscaping of the property to compliment the fact that the station is nearby a residential area. Owners intend to put their efforts into making the new complex a friendly neighborhood store, something that West Laramie residents will hopefully appreciate!  The Gateway Complex's grand opening is set for April of 2012.
