Your Question:

Why do they plow the snow to the outside of the streets into the parking areas? Plow to the middle!!!

The City's Response:

Snow plowed to the center creates problems after the storm.  The windrow makes it difficult to cross with vehicles and the windrow can partially melt then refreeze which makes it difficult to remove or plow again if the storms come with little separation.  Snow melt from the center of the street will run across the street and often refreeze creating ice for vehicles to travel on.

We do plow to the center if we are going to pick up the snow.  This is only done in the downtown area , on the major streets, and around schools.

With the forecast for above freezing daytime temperatures for the next week, plowing to the outside is the most economical and provides the most safety for the vehicles using the streets.
