Ask The City: Why Don’t Trash Cans in the Parks Have Lids?

Your Question:

Why are there no lids on the trash cans at the city parks? On windy days I've seen many instances where this has created a litter problem.

The City's Answer:

There are two primary reasons that lids are not present on trash cans in the parks:  

1) There are over 200 cans obtained at no cost.  The cost to add lids becomes pricey.

2) Cans are emptied twice per week to hopefully keep the trash down in the can so it does not blow out. During the winter months we only pull the trash once per week.

Approximately half the cans are taken out of service in the winter.
