Ask The City – Why Aren’t Stoplights Downtown Synchronized?

Why aren't the traffic lights downtown timed better? It seems that currently you can catch every light red when driving down the same street.

The City's Response:

Lights on 2^nd Street.  are intentionally left “out of sync” to slow traffic.  Keeping vehicular traffic slow provides safety for those backing out of parking places, making midblock pedestrian crossings, and also slows drivers so they see what stores there are in the downtown area.  Lights on 3^rd Street  belong to WYDOT and are somewhat “in sync”.  4^th  Street & Ivinson is to be “in sync with 4^th Street & Grand Avenue but there are enough variations in the clocks that it doesn’t stay that way.
