American indie rock band Typhoon, along with supporting bands Wild Ones and Youth, will perform a free concert at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the University of Wyoming Ballroom at the Wyoming Union.

A relatively large group, Typhoon consists of a rotating band of musicians and typically performs with 10 to 14 players on stage.  With music consisting of convoluted arrangements and meticulous orchestration, Typhoon proves to be capable of performing a wide variety of styles inspired by various genres of music.

“With such a large number of musicians and instrument, it’s no surprise that they can create a massive sound, but their playing reflects restraint and patience, as well” Alisa Ali of NPR said.  “The songs often start slowly and quietly before gradually building into a swell of emotion.”

This fall they kicked off their BFF Tour in which they are teaming up with Wild Ones and Youth and touring the western United States.  2011 has brought many performance opportunities for the band.  Not only have they recently performed on the David Letterman and NPR, the band has also performed at various music festivals such as SXSW, Newport Folk and Lollapalooza.  If you would like to listen to some of Typhoon’s songs before the concert check out their myspace Page.
