It's summer in Wyoming; time to pack up the car and hit the road. Luckily, the Cowboy State is one of the best destinations for fun in the great outdoors. A new study recently ranked Wyoming as the second-best state for summer road trips, trailing only North Carolina.

Along with our stunning scenic beauty and access to National and State Parks, Wyoming scored high marks for affordability. The average price for a campsite in the Cowboy State is the lowest in the country. Wyoming ranked third for the least crowded roads and highways. Gas prices and the cost of car repairs in Wyoming are also below the national average.

Around the region, Utah was ranked the ninth best state for summer road trips, followed by Nebraska in 18th place, South Dakota in 21st, Idaho in 23rd, Colorado in 25th, and Montana in 41st.

Minnesota, Virginia, and Texas finished behind North Carolina and Wyoming in the top five states. Rhode Island ranked last in the study, with Delaware, Connecticut, Hawaii, and Arkansas rounding out the five worst states for summer road trips.
