Despite hopes to open Third and Grand Avenue today, it will be a few more days.

By Friday, Sept. 8, construction for the Third Street Utily Rehabilitation project from Grand Avenue to the north is expected to be completed.

City of Laramie Public Works Director Brooks Webb said paving capabilities hindered construction progress, and thus the city could not open the intersection as planned today. “The contractor worked 11 straight days leading up to last weekend but they were unable to acquire asphalt last week so we could not open the roadway.”

“Pavement preparations are taking place now and pavement will be placed before this weekend,” Brooks added.

Intersections at Ivinson Avenue and Grand Avenue were open for Labor Day weekend, and the contractor is attempting to keep crossings available at either Grand or Ivinson this week. Crossings may rotate back and forth depending on the work taking place in that section. Both crossings may be closed simultaneously for short intervals for public safety necessities.

The intersection at University Avenue is now fully reopened for vehicle and pedestrian traffic.

The next phase of construction will then commence on Third Street between Grand Avenue and Sheridan Street. The city plans to keep both Grand Avenue and Sheridan Street intersections open to traffic.

The city of Laramie thanks everyone for their patience and support while they continue to improve the city's critical infrastructure.
