In a letter to the Board, Bittner shared the reason for his decision:

“This is something I don’t want to do, but it is simply something that I must do, based on my current health condition, I don’t think that it would be wise for me to push forward on Board work. I do regret this because I think we have so much more to tackle as a Board, and I was very much looking forward to some of our discussions and policy work.”

Bittner has spent the last five years representing Area A, which refers to the Laramie city limits, excluding Cottonwood Estates and Roach Addition.

According to state statute 21-3-108, a vacancy occurring for any cause upon the Board of Trustees of any school district shall be filed within thirty days by the action of the remaining members of the board.

A search to replace Bittner will begin immediately by the ACSD#1 Board of Trustees. Anyone who resides in Area A, as outlined above, and is interested in applying for the open position can send a Letter of Interest to the board via email at boardofeducation@acsd1.org. The deadline for letters of interest is 5 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 8, 2021.
