Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest steam locomotive, is still celebrating the 150th anniversary of the transcontinental railroad's completion. If you missed seeing it when it was in Laramie, Wyoming in May, or you want to check it out again, you'll have your chance on Friday (September 27).

Big Boy is scheduled to head out from UP's Steam Shop in Cheyenne on September 27 for the "Great Race Across the Southwest." The locomotive will be making brief whistle-stops in communities along its route.

The City of Laramie reports that between 10:45 AM and 11:30 AM Friday, the historic steam locomotive will make a stop in Laramie as it travels across Wyoming.

The Historic Railroad Depot downtown will open at 9:00 AM in anticipation of the Big Boy's arrival. The City says that a great place to view the Big Boy will be from the back of the Historic Railroad Depot located at 1st Street & Kearney Street.

This is the last time this year Big Boy No. 4014 will ride the rails on the Union Pacific system. Its trek will take it through Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Utah, and Wyoming. You can see it's full schedule here.
