The charm of the "Tree Area"  in Laramie Wyoming has always been why I live, work and play there. The City Council 2 years ago wanted to establish standards for zoning regulations for the area to protect it's charm and have a Unified Development Code. What does that all mean? At this point nobody knows really. That's why the city has created a survey to see what the people and business owners wish to see in the future. If you live, own property, or own a business please take time to fill out the survey and call the City to ask questions on what the "Tree Area Overlay District Design Guidelines" will mean to you and your property. There will be 2 Public Informational Meeting you can attend to voice your ideas and concerns. (see info below)

Background:

Throughout the years, residents and visitors to Laramie have recognized the unique characteristics of the “Tree Area”, as it is commonly known. At the direction of the City Council, staff has started the process of creating design guidelines for the Tree Area Overlay District (See Map). Protection of the neighborhood's character was deemed a priority of both the 2007 Comprehensive Plan and the 2010 Unified Development Code. As part of the City’s Unified Development Code the boundary of the Tree Area Overlay Zone was established and when standards would be required were established; no specific regulations or design guidelines were approved.

The Tree Area is generally located west and south of the University of Wyoming Main Campus and represents an area approximately 438 acres in size. Approximately 1550 structures representing numerous architecture styles are in the district. Underlying zone districts include Downtown Commercial (DC), General Business (B2), Multi-Family Residential (R3), Limited Multi-Family (R2) and Single Family Residential (R1). Uses within the area range from single family homes, apartment buildings, University of Wyoming buildings, churches, schools, bed and breakfasts and a wide variety of businesses.

Survey:

As part of this process of developing standards, citizen input is important in helping the staff, Planning Commission and City council make decisions based on citizen input.  Tree Area Survey
