Very hot weather, with temperatures expected to approach 100 degrees in some areas, is contributing to Red Flag Fire Warnings across much of Wyoming today, according to the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service.

The agency has posted this statement on its website:

Looking at active Fire Weather conditions across much of Wyoming today thanks to the dry air and gusty winds from high pressure aloft. Red Flag Warnings are in effect for Southeastern Wyoming from noon till 8 pm this evening. Outdoor burning is discouraged as fires could spread rapidly in dry fuels. You'll notice that Nebraska is not currently experiencing widespread fire weather conditions mainly due to the recent rain and storms. Cooler and wetter weather is expected to return later this week as a cold front moves in
