Planning Begins for Laramie, Albany County’s 150th Anniversary
The Albany County Commissioners and the Laramie City Council will begin discussing the City of Laramie’s and Albany County’s 150th anniversary celebration coming up in 2018 during their work session Tuesday night.
The City Council and the Commissioners will begin planning events to celebrate the anniversary as well as to help bring the rich history of Laramie and Albany County to its residents.
“We are trying to look into the history of Albany County and how to honor that,” Commissioner Tim Chesnut said. “I think we will be working a lot with the Laramie Plains Museum and other historical areas especially the Train Depot and things like that.”
Chesnut said big topics they want the celebrations to include are the significance of the railroad as well as the University of Wyoming. Chesnut said he hopes to tie in the anniversary to the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, which also takes place in 2018.
Chesnut said the anniversary celebrations will take place throughout the year and will most likely culminate with the Laramie Jubilee Days Celebration.
Chesnut said he is most excited to work within the Albany County School District No. 1 to bring the history of Albany County to its students.
The County Commissioners will meet with the City Council in the City Council Chambers at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
