New Laramie Farmers Market in Undine Park to Begin in June
A new Farmers Market is coming to Laramie this summer. The Laramie Community Market will begin on June 14th and run from 3 pm to 7pm every Thursday until Sept. 27th. The new market will take place at Undine Park on Fifth and Ord.
The new market will provide a more affordable venue for small vendors to sell their products to the community. There will be some familiar faces at the Laramie Community Market. Vendors selling jerky, fruits, vegetables, baked goods, coffee, tea, and kettle corn are all also vendors to patrons of the downtown farmers market. In addition to these vendors, there will be some new faces including a stand with food from an elementary school garden. There has also been interest from out of town and out of state vendors. This market may have more arts and craft booths than we have seen in the past at Laramie's downtown market according to the event organizers. The market expects to have 20 to 25 vendors in attendance each week throughout the summer.
We will have a full list of vendors laer this week that will be added to this story so make sure and check back for that information.
According to Erika Babbitt-Rogers, a chair on the association for the new market, the Laramie Community Market has made a special attempt to have activities for children.
We think it’s going to be very educational and family friendly,” said Babbitt- Rogers.
There will be a face painting booth for kids and other activities on a weekly basis to keep kids interested in the market. There will also be educational opportunities for children to learn about gardening in Wyoming and many children’s groups will be attending to keep them engaged.
This farmers market is in the process of getting the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP to work with them as well. This program helps needy families to afford food. The market may not be able to accept the SNAP benefits at the beginning of the summer, but hopes to begin accepting these benefits sometime this year. SNAP being accepted at a farmers market would be a first in the Laramie Community.
