A funding award from Rocky Mountain Power's Blue Sky program was given to the City of Laramie to support the installation of solar panels to serve the Laramie Community Recreation Center and the Ice and Events Center.

The City of Laramie applied for a Blue Sky award this spring.

The Laramie community has had an increasing interest in a variety of environmental initiatives with citizens groups like the Alliance for Renewable Energy encouraging municipal investments in solar and wind, even passing a Resolution in March 2020 establishing a commitment to Carbon neutrality by 2050.

The solar installation at the Laramie Community Recreation Center and the Ice and Events Center represents the first step toward that goal.

Blue Sky is an opt-in program that gives Rocky Mountain Power customers an option to match all or part of their energy use with renewable energy, hence reducing their carbon footprints.
