LARAMIE – Every high school senior looks forward to graduation. For some, it seemed like the day would never come.

With graduation week finally here, Laramie High School Principal Chuck Kern announces three events honoring the Plainsmen Class of 2019.

Wednesday, May 22, is the last official day of school for the graduating seniors, as they will be finishing up their classes.

The Graduate Scholarship Celebration will be held at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, in the LHS Theater.

“Students’ invitations to this small targeted event will be extended by higher education institutions and community organizations that have awarded scholarships to LHS graduates,” said Kern. “Graduates who will be honored at this recognition will only be invited by the institutions and organizations that plan to recognize student achievement with a public awarding/recognition of their scholarship.”

Kern noted that LHS only hosts this event and that the higher education institutions and community organizations who wish to recognize their scholarship recipients are responsible for inviting and acknowledging, their awardees.

A Capping Ceremony is scheduled at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 22, in LHS Cafeteria, and is open to all LHS graduates.

“All seniors should have received a Capping Ceremony Invitation from their I & E teacher or picked one up from the main office. If your child has not returned a completed Capping Ceremony document, they will not be recognized at the Capping Ceremony,” said Kern.

“This event is always well attended, which is why each senior is limited to a total of four guests (including themselves). You should expect to share a table with at least one other family. Unfortunately, due to the size of our cafeteria, we ask families to stay within this limitation. If families bring more than four people, the cafeteria/commons will not be able to hold the event. Fortunately, everyone has successfully worked within this small limitation in the past two years.”

On Thursday, May 23, graduating seniors will checkout beginning at 8 a.m.  Seniors will be assigned a time to come in alphabetically by the last name.

Graduation Practice is scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday, May 24, at the University of Wyoming Arena-Auditorium.

Finally, the Graduation Ceremony is set for 7 p.m. on Friday in the UW Arena-Auditorium.

“We are excited to announce that ACSD #1 will again be hosting graduation at the University of Wyoming’s Arena-Auditorium. This event is hosted by ACSD #1 to recognize and celebrate all LHS graduating seniors,” Kern said.

All graduates must arrive by 6:30 p.m. Unlike the Capping Ceremony, there is no limitation to how many people the graduate can invite. As in the past, seating is first to come, first served.
