Cathy Duncil, Pro Bono Coordinator for the Wyoming State Bar, presented the award today at an Awards Luncheon taking place in conjunction with the Wyoming State Bar Virtual Annual Meeting.

The nomination for the award was submitted by a retired attorney, Travis W. Moffat, from Lander, Wyoming.

Hursh was recognized for his commitment and dedication to providing outstanding pro bono services to veterans in Wyoming.

Hursh graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law in 1968 and immediately joined the Marines, where he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marines in December of 1968. After Marine Basic School, Hursh was sent to Naval Justice School in Newport, Rhode Island. Hursh served as a JAG officer, primarily as a Trial Counsel (prosecutor) until his release from active duty in 1972 with the rank of Captain.

In 1973, Hursh started his own practice in Riverton that later evolved into Central Wyoming Law Associates. He practiced there until his retirement from the practice in 2010.

Since his retirement in 2010, Hursh has been doing pro bono work at the UW Veteran’s Center, which expanded into a specialized VA practice in southeast Wyoming.
