LARAMIE RIVER GREENBELT TRAIL CLOSED DUE TO POTENTIAL SEASONAL FLOODING AND FLASH FLOODING

Due to significant precipitation and mountain snow melt that may cause the Big Laramie River to rise with the possibility of flooding and flash flooding the Laramie River Greenbelt Park Trail system, from Curtis Street to Commerce Drive is hereby closed until further notice, under the authority of LMC 12.48.010. The city asks all greenbelt trail users to avoid this area of the greenbelt trail until the potential for seasonal flooding and flash flooding is lifted. The city anticipates that the greenbelt trail may be closed for up to four (4) weeks, or until the historic peak of the mountain snow runoff concludes for the season. The city also reminds all residents to exercise extreme caution if you are around or near the Big Laramie River as high river flows during flooding and flash flooding is a very dangerous situation. The Wyoming Territorial Park would also like to remind all greenbelt trail users that it is illegal to trespass across State Parks property without paying the required entrance fee.

The Albany County Emergency Management Agency has established a spring runoff report hot line that is updated daily, or as conditions warrant at 721-5300. BARK BEETLE SPRAYING

Contractors began spraying all spruce and pine trees in City Parks, Greenhill Cemetery, and other city owned properties. Tengard insecticide will be applied to the trunks of trees to prevent the infestation of bark beetles. Locations will be signed from 24 hours pre- application until 24 hours post-application.  Application location and times will be posted daily on the Mosquito Control and Integrated Pest Management Hotline at 721-5056. SUMMER OUTDOOR AQUATICS

Get your swimsuits ready and bring out the sun!  The City’s outdoor aquatics facilities will open the following days for the summer season:

Undine Park Splash Pad – NOW OPEN from 11:00 am – 6:00 pm daily.   Note: the Splash Pad is unsupervised (no lifeguard on duty). FREE ADMISSION!

Washington Park Wading Pool – Monday, June 13 – open hours 12:30 – 4:30 pm daily.  Lifeguard on Duty. FREE ADMISSION!

Recreation Center Outdoor Pool – Monday, June 13 – open hours 12 noon – 6:30 pm daily.  Lifeguards on Duty.  Admission fees do apply.

Opening and closing of all outdoor facilities are subject to local weather conditions.

SUMMER FUN CLUBS

All clubs meet at the Recreation Center, 920 Boulder Drive.  Participants need to bring their own morning snack and lunch.  Afternoon snack will be provided.  Each week includes swimming on Tuesday and Friday afternoons; and field trips on Thursdays.  Any movies shown will be in support of the theme for the week. Grades 2 - 6. The dates and themes for this summer’s clubs are: June 13 – 17 “Land Before Time”; June 20 – 24 “Culinary Expeditions”; June 27 – July 1 “Nature’s Wonders”; July 5 – 8 “Extreme Days of Summer”; July 11 – 15 “Under the Sea”; July 18 – 22 “Let’s Go Camping!”; July 25 – 29 “World Travels Fees”: $125/full day; $63/half-day.  Register at the Recreation Center front desk.

KIDS NIGHT OUT FRIDAY, JUNE 24^TH!

Leave the parents at home and come to the Recreation Center!  Kids, grades K – 6, will be active, have fun, and make friends in this safe, supervised program.  Kids Night Out is led by screened and trained staff and includes swimming and the inflatable Fun Run Obstacle Course, gym activities, board games, crafts, pizza and drinks.  Registration is now open.  Kid’s Night Out needs a minimum of 15 children and is limited to 45 participants maximum.  Don’t forget your swimsuit and towel!  Fee: $12 ($10 for members).  Register now at the Laramie Community Recreation Center, or call us at 721-5269.

ALPINE TENNIS ASSOCIATION LESSONS

Tennis lessons with the Alpine Tennis Association session one will run June 13-24. There will be lessons for adult beginners to advanced beginners, intermediate and advanced players for adults as well as beginner, intermediate and advanced junior players. There are two different classes available: one is Tues & Thurs from 7:30-8:30pm which is $56 and the other is Mon from 5:30-7pm for $40.There will also be classes for younger kids, Little Aces ages 4-6, Spinners ages 6-8, Slicers ages 8-10 and Junior Davis ages 10-14. The Recreation Center Program guide has these classes listed on just Thursday but they are Tuesday and Thursday at their respected times.  There is also a Junior Competitive Program for ages 12-18.  For more information on these classes please contact Doug Meade at the Recreation Center at 721-5263 or go online to www.AlpineTennis.org.

LARAMIE ICE AND EVENT CENTER RENTALS

The Ice and Event Center is now available for off season non-ice rentals.  We offer hourly and daily rentals of the lobby/concessions area as well as the full arena.  Call Laura for more information at 721-5265.

MOSQUITO CONTROL

City of Laramie Mosquito Control currently rates the risk of West Nile virus infection at Level 1-(Remote risk). Surveillance traps are collecting small numbers of nuisance and vector mosquitoes as weather conditions improve for mosquito activity.  Crews are placing “NO SPRAY” markers in advance of anticipated need for fogging operations.  Schedules regarding Mosquito Control and Parks and Cemetery chemical applications for control of weeds and insect pests are available daily on the Mosquito Control and Integrated Pest Management Hotline at 721-5056. UNDINE PARK PLAYGROUND SWING SET CLOSED

A safety bulletin has been issued by the Manufacturer for the swing set located at Undine Park Playground for a potential structural durability problem. The swings have been removed until replacement parts arrive per the manufacturer’s request. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

YOUTH POTTERY

This is a hand-building class teaching methods such as coiling, slab, deductive carving, relief sculpture and pinch pots. June 14-28 is for 3rd-5^th grade kids; July 7-21 is for 6^th & 7^th grade kids. It will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-4pm at Indian Paintbrush Elementary and is instructed by IPES art teacher Justin Deegan.  Cost is $60 per person for 5 class sessions, and includes all materials.  Register at the Recreation Center, or call Laura for more information, 721-5265.

SUMMER CHILD CARE

There will be no Child Care for June, July and August.  We will restart child care starting August 29^th for the Fall Semester.  The children’s playroom is available all day for your enjoyment.  Thank you and we will see you in the Fall.

FREE TOURS AT THE LARAMIE HISTORIC RAILROAD DEPOT
