More Than 20 Years Later, Cheyenne Homicide Remains Unsolved

More than 20 years after a 25-year-old Cheyenne man was shot and killed in what may have been a "road rage" incident, his killing remains unsolved.

But authorities are still seeking information from the public in hopes of solving the case.

The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation's Cold Cases website has this listing for Jamie Kamai:

On June 21, 2001, an unknown male suspect shot Jamie Kamai to death on West College Drive approximately 75 yards west of the South Greeley Highway. Kamai and the suspect may have been involved in a traffic dispute at the time of the murder. Based on witness information, the department is continuing to look for three possible vehicles used by the suspect: a small black pickup with an older white camper shell, the pickup had gray primer spots on the passenger door and possibly on the passenger side; a small red pickup with a white camper shell; and a normal-size black pickup with gray primer spots on the passenger door and possibly on the passenger side. Anyone with information regarding the possible suspect or vehicle is requested to call the Laramie County Sheriffs Department at 307-633-4700 or the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation at (307) 777-7181.

In 2017 Lt. Don Hollingshead told Townsquare Media's Joy Greenwald that Kamai had been stopped in traffic a little after 8 a.m. in the 200 block of College Drive. He went back to talk to a man in a pickup, who then shot Kamai before driving off. Hollingshead said there were two small children in Kamai's vehicle when he was shot.

While investigators have followed up on numerous leads over the years, no one has ever been arrested in connection with the incident.
