The first of four Cheyenne Frontier Days 2025 Grand Parades is slated for Saturday at 9 a.m. in Downtown Cheyenne.

Additional parades will be held on Tuesday, Thursday and the final Saturday of Cheyenne Frontier Days of 2025.

The organized parades have been a regular tradition for about 100 years. In fact, this year and next next year will mark important milestones in terms of the parades as an organized, planned event

Prior to that, the "parades' as such didn't exist, at least not in the way we think of them now. They were more or less impromptu gallops by cowboys on their horses. No floats or marching bands. There had been organi9zed parades in 1898 in honor of Buffalo Bill and again in 1910 for President Theodore Roosevelt.

But those were one time events, not a regular feature of Cheyenne Frontier Days

But in 1925 that started to change. That's when a pageant around the theme of 'The Evolution of Transportation'' was organized. The following year, the first ever parade featuring floats that would last was launched, according to the website.

What Can You Expect To See at a CFD Grand Parade?

So what can parade goers expect to see? Well, Frontier Days is first  and foremost a rodeo, and much of the parade will emphasize traditional western themes. Native Americans, people dressed in period garb from the old west, historical floats representing chapters form the history of Cheyenne and/or Wyoming.

There is a good chance you will see historic stagecoaches and Conestoga wagons. And horses. Lots of them.

While the parade will emphasize western themes and history, there will likely be some military processions as well. That's appropriate in a community that has been associated with the military from the very start.

One tip for first time parade-goers: If you put a premium on getting a good spot to watch the parade. it pays to get there early. The parade starts at 9 a.m., but it's not unusual to see parade lovers grabbing a spot and possibly setting up chairs along the parade route as early as 7 or 7:30 a.m.

Cheyenne residents and regular CFD visitors in particular need to know there are some changes in access to the parade this year, as the City of Cheyenne posted on Facebook recently:
