The Garfield Street Footbridge will be closed to the public on weekdays for construction and painting services from Monday, September 24th to December 1st. The footbridge will be closed Monday through Friday, approximately 7:00 am to 6:00 pm while work is conducted.

This is the first phase of a multiple year project to strip and clean any loose lead-based paint off of the footbridge and to recoat the structure with multiple coats of flat black paint. This painting project is an important step in protecting and preserving the bridge that was initially constructed by the Union Pacific Railroad in 1929, thereby maintaining pedestrian access from West Laramie to Downtown Laramie.

For commuters who are impacted by this closure, please consider using the Clark Street Bridge or the Curtis Street Bridge as alternative routes. The Garfield Street Footbridge will be re-opened to the public as soon as work as completed on the project.

Laramie Parks & Recreation sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience this closure may cause and appreciate your patience as we complete this project. Please contact Paul Harrison, Parks & Recreation Director, at 721-5260 for additional information.
