LARAMIE -- The Friends of the Albany County Public Library will hold its annual summer book sale from Wednesday, July 24 to Sunday, July 28.

Sally Oviatt, Book Sale Chair and Vice-President of the Friends of the Albany County Public Library Board, said the purpose of the Friends is to raise funds to provide direct financial assistance to the Albany County Public Library.

“It’s a county entity but relies on the support of The Friends and the Foundation. In the last few years, we’ve been really lucky and able to raise over $50,000 each year to give directly to the library. That makes up a majority of the funds that the library uses to purchase materials. That could be books or other kinds of learning materials . . . the amazing thing is that all of that money comes from selling books which actually come from our own community. We’re really thankful that we live in this great town, where people read a lot and then they give back.”

Oviatt said The Friends Book Sale has a large selection of vintage books, a new section of Chinese history, comic books, and much more.

“We have books in a whole range of genres. Non-fiction, fiction, audiobooks, CD’s and LP’s, some pretty good LP’s this year. We have comic books. We have a large collection right now, which is kind of exciting, of vintage books. So if you’re interested in old books, we’ve got a bunch this season, so come down for sure! And we have a large selection of large print books, too.”

Hours for the 5-day event are Wednesday, July 24, from 3 to 6:30 p.m., which is Members Only Day. Memberships may be purchased at the library circulation desk or at the sale, including members-only day. Annual memberships are $10 per person or $15 per household.

The sale continues on Thursday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.; Friday, July 26, from 1 to 5:30 p.m., which also marks the end of Summer Reading programs; Saturday, July 27, from 1 to 4:30 p.m.; and the Library will be open as well on Sunday, July 28, from 1 to 4:30 p.m., and is 50% Off Day, with special Sunday hours.

The Friends of the Library sale is well organized and arranged on shelves as in a regular bookstore or library. A map will be available at the Library to navigate to your genre. The Friends sell books, music, movies, audiobooks, and more -- all genres, with exceptional prices.

The Friends of the Albany County Public Library are always in need of volunteers to work preparing items for sale and to work the sales desk during the sales. If you are interested, please contact FOL_BookSale@acplwy.org.
