The Deerwood Ranch Wild Horse Ecosanctuary in the Laramie area will host a free wild horse day and adoption event on  Saturday, June 8.

Wild Horse and Burro Adoptions Available

According to a news release, the ranch will open its gates to visitors for free from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 8. The ranch features over 350 wild horses. As part of the event, 15 male and female non-gentled yearlings will be available for adoption. An undisclosed number of burros will also be up for adoption, and representatives of the Bureau of Land Management will be there to answer questions and approve adoption applications.

According to the release, the following events will be part of the event:

  • Rez Dawg will have a puppy available for adoption.
  • Live music will be performed throughout the day, adding to the festive atmosphere.
  • Enjoy a tractor hayride to view the 350+ wild horses in their natural habitat. Guided tours will run from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., departing every half hour, with the last tour departing at 2:00 p.m.
  • Experience the rustic charm of the Colorado Wagon Train, offering horse-drawn wagon rides to and from the parking area.

Food, t-shirts, handmade leather goods and other items will be available for purchase.

According to its website, Deerwood Ranch is the "very first BLM Certified Wild Horse EcoSanctuary. What this means is that we are private land owners approved by the BLM to care for wild horses. Deerwood Ranch is a family owned operation that has been used for cattle ranching for over 30 years."

The ranch is located at 599 Wyoming Highway 11.
