Cheers to 100 Years of Homecoming in Laramie: 2023 Preview

The University of Wyoming is celebrating a big anniversary this year, with “Cheers to 100 Years” commemorating 100 years of Homecoming. This fall’s event lineup includes the “Legacy Lunch,” a new way “to celebrate alumni with current UW students who have made UW a family tradition,” said Jack Tennant, UW Alumni Association executive director, in a press release. 

Homecoming week is scheduled for Sept. 25-30. Other events are the annual parade, Cowboy Coffee gathering, and the 2nd annual “Tribute to Steamboat.” The tribute, held at the Hansen Arena, is an evening of rodeo-related activities and swing dancing to commemorate the famous horse. 

Of the iconic bucking horse, UW Foundation states, “Steamboat defines and embodies the untamable spirit of the state and the University of Wyoming…He represents the toughness, pride, and independence of Wyoming and its inhabitants.”

The week concludes with the parade Saturday morning and the Pokes taking on the New Mexico Lobos also on Saturday (game time TBD). The Pokes have faced off against the Lobos a total of 75 times, with UW garnering 39 wins, including last year’s victory, compared to the Lobos’ 36.
