Your Question:

Why doesn't the city re-instate parking maids? I see cars parked illegally all the time. I see cars parked on the street on the opposite side of the road facing against traffic and my biggest pet peave; I see people parked in handicap spots all the time and don't have a placard or plate! ESPECIALLY at Walmart! I see cars that have expired plates for a couple years and or flat tires. The city wants to clean up the city, well have a parking enforcement authority! I was told the community service officers are suppose to do that however I never see them do any thing and have to be dispatched only when someone calls in a complaint.

The City's Response:

While parking enforcement is a concern of all citizens, workload of both officers and community service officers (CSOs) dictate how much time can be spent on proactive parking enforcement. One of the primary job duties of the CSOs is parking enforcement, but most often this enforcement is reactive in nature – people call in with parking complaints and as time allows the CSO or beat officers respond to that particular concern. Out of a typical 10 hour day, an officer or CSO generally have less than 1 hour of discretionary time to spend. My suggestion to you is that when you see parking violations, don’t hesitate to call the Dispatch Center non-emergency number at 721.2526. Your concern will be handled as time permits.
