The Question:

Why doesn't the city offer parking permits to people who work in the downtown business area? Currently, the parking limit is 2 hours. This means if you work downtown you need to move your car every 2 hours on a daily basis to avoid getting a parking ticket. This isn't always possible since people have to actually get some work done. Why don't they offer something similar to the resident parking permits around the UW campus?

The Answer:

The following response is from the Laramie Main Street Alliance:

“The City has done a great job of providing FREE, ALL DAY PARKING throughout downtown at the following locations: First and University, 2nd and Custer and First and Garfield. In addition, you can find all day spots along the tracks on First Street, near Depot Park and around the corner from the Albany County Tourism Board and 2nd and Custer.

Residents, employees and business owners downtown simply need to take advantage of these parking areas and leave the spots in front of the stores for customers.

A short walk in the morning or beginning of one's shift will eliminate the need to move your car every two hours.

This philosophy is practiced and encouraged by the Laramie Main Street Alliance and the Downtown Laramie Business Association.”
